"In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will" - Ephesians 1:11 At a recent business conference that Tammy and I attended, an interesting statement was made. It went something like this: "The purpose of your business [or career] is to make money. Your personal [God-given] purpose is much more than that." Is it saying that you should separate how you make a living from your God-given purpose? Not at all! In a perfect situation (which we may or may not all have right now), your personal purpose and gifts will guide your career selection and decisions about what kind of business to create. To me, that statement conveys that YOUR purpose is deep and multifaceted, but a business' is simple. Think about this, your business or career brings in money. Money is almost always needed in every aspect of life, including spreading the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. Your business or career also brings you opportunities to connect with people. By connecting with others through the "vehicle" or "vessel" of your business or job, unique opportunities will arise. To take that statement one step further, I would like to change it to, "Your business' [career's] purpose is to help you further God's purposes on the Earth." We take action to further God's purposes, with the help or vehicle of our businesses and careers (and God's help of course). We can use our businesses and careers to express our gifts and purpose, which ultimately is part of God's plan. God's Purposes on the Earth (top priority) His Purposes for You (your gifts + action) Your Business or Career's Purpose (vehicle that takes you places) Take a moment to ponder how your business or career is a potential channel for God's use, and how it fits with your gifts and God-given purpose. If you have numerous answers, you are most likely in the right place! If not, it may be time for a God-directed change. He has a good work planned for your future!
