There are just some days when my "God, I need help" prayer list seems rather long. Honestly, I feel kind of guilty about it when that happens for some dumb reason! Do you too? Maybe it's just me... Right now my prayer help list includes things like ridding our family of the flu, aligning my attitude and heart with Him and getting His clear vision for next steps in business. A feeling of desperation, anxiety or confusion (possibly all 3 at the same time) can arise in our minds and even effect our physical bodies when we strive to solve all our own problems. About ten years ago, I watched a news program covering a town hit by a large tornado, and showing the devastation it left behind. The reporter went from family to family, house to house, street to street interviewing different people and showing their extreme loss and stress. I will never forget one little old Southern lady who he interviewed and what she said. She was approximately 75 years old, probably didn't have a lot of possessions to start with, but lost everything including her home. As she sat on the side of a street, she wisely offered this comment to the reporter, "Well, there isn't any use worrying AND praying." Simple, yet profound truth. God really does care about what is going on in our lives. He is interested in our activities, thoughts, health, problems, needs, and actions. Though we cannot see our own future clearly, we must trust that our Father is "working all things together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" -Romans 8:28. He will finish the work He has started in us. Even though that woman lost everything in the tornado's strike, she knew it was a waste of her time to worry and be anxious. I can imagine that she has seen the faithfulness of God in her life over and over and has learned to trust Him. As we mature in our faith, our prayer focus changes. At some point, we start to say things like, "God, I pray that your will is done in this situation", or "Something needs to change Lord, even if it's me." He can really work in lives that are yielded to Him. Keep those prayer lines open daily - hourly - moment by moment. Do what you can do (no, that doesn't include worrying, but does include praying) and God will do the rest. Be encouraged - you are the apple of His eye!
