"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:27 Have you heard of Pastor Rick Warren's 40-Days of Purpose book/study? Right now, my husband and I are group leaders for a 'purpose driven life' group based on the 40-Days of Purpose book. It's been an interesting process so far. One thing I've noticed is how focused it is on fellowship and building up the body of Christ - the family of believers. One morning last week, as I was contemplating our group's lessons and the Koinonia Business Women's organization, it struck me how similar our focus is. An amazing thing happened next. I had a visual picture flash in my mind. No words per say, but that vision was worth a thousand words. I saw an extremely gaunt person, with sunken features, no muscle, emaciated, and lacking in strength. In an instant, I understood that picture to be of the body of Christ - the church, believers, Christians. This person was alive, but weak and had very little or no power. It was clear to me that God was saying, "Build up the Body". There is so much power available to us as children of the Almighty. Because of that vision, I now understand how important it is for each of us to be developing ourselves, working, building each other up, and most of all being joined together as one "body". This verse from Ephesians has a good explanation - "From him (Christ) the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Apparently we have some strength training to do, along with fellowship, growing in love, and Kingdom work! When we don't do these things, we keep the body weak by not doing our part. Who knew we would be so intertwined and interdependent... I guess God did! Now it's our turn to catch that revelation and gain strength.
